History
Centrafrique Check, formerly known as the Association of Fact-Checkers of the Central African Republic, is a media organization specialized in fact-checking, established following a series of training sessions organized in 2019 by Internews-RCA for 65 Central African journalists and bloggers on fact-checking. On April 10, 2020, 4 journalists and 3 bloggers were selected for a 6-month practical internship on Fact-Checking. It was during this advanced training that the team deemed it necessary to form an association to independently fight against disinformation and rumors in the Central African Republic. On July 28, 2023, this association changed its name and became a Non-Governmental Media Organization after three years and five months of experience in writing and publishing verified information.

Our Team
Our Impact
Our articles published on social media have provided additional information to the general public. The general public, which consumes information, can now question certain circulating information.
Thanks to the various sensitization series we have organized, the general public has developed skills in combating misinformation. They are now able to distinguish false information from true information. The population is immediately informed about the fight against disinformation that we are leading.
How We Are Funded
Since our creation in 2020, we have evolved thanks to the financial and material support of the NGO Internews Centrafrique under the Connect project.
From October 2021 to January 2022, we received support from FREE PRESS UNLIMITED amounting to 4500 euros over a period of 4 months. This partnership was exclusively dedicated to writing and publishing factual or verified content.
During the years 2021-2022, AFC secured a project worth 40,000 euros during a call for applications launched by the OIF. A twinning project of Francophone initiatives to combat disinformation funded by the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), in collaboration with RMCC and Congo Check in DRC.
In 2021, we benefited from the technical support of Canal France International CFI (a French media development organization), which assisted us with a series of upgrades and experience-sharing sessions through various training series.
During the years 2021-2023, another supporting partner joined Centrafrique Check: MINUSCA, which sequentially funded 4 activities of the Fact-Checkers synergy, including media outlets such as Centrafrique Check, the Central African Bloggers Association (ABCA), and the Consortium of Journalists for the Fight against Disinformation (CJLCD).
