The photo of the bad road was not taken in the Central African Republic

The image showing a truck sinking on an extremely dilapidated road is taken out of context, contrary to what certain online users claim. In a post shared by the group “RCA Bata Ködrö na wïn” and later relayed by the group “Mouvement les Amis du Général François Bozizé” with a few comments and likes, it was claimed: “It is only today that we understand that Vakaga has been abandoned by the Central African State. So, don’t blame the inhabitants of this region.” However, the accompanying image was not taken in the Central African Republic.

Where is this photo actually from? The image was taken in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and not in the Central African Republic.

To distinguish between true and false information, our fact-checking team used verification tools like Reverse Image Search and Yandex to discover that this image was never taken on Central African territory. Instead, it is a photo from the South Kivu province in the DRC. It was first published on the “Radio la Voix de l’UCG” page on July 16, 2020, and republished on November 26 of the same year by Kiko Songa in a tweet.

During this period, many disinformation campaigns have emerged with the aim of stirring controversy and tension among the population.
