No, consuming pineapple and Coca-Cola is not deadly – AFC

An information shared in WhatsApp groups claims that consuming pineapple while drinking Coca-Cola is a deadly poison. Health specialists have affirmed to AFC that there is no scientific basis for this claim.

The information states: “The consumption of pineapple accompanied by Coca-Cola constitutes a deadly poison.” This is an unfounded claim without scientific evidence.

Verification:

We contacted Dr. Mbary Siolo Mada Bebelou, Head of the Nutrition and Food Hygiene Department at the Primary Health Care Directorate in Bangui: “This is purely false information. If it were true, I would already be dead as a consumer. Pineapple contains juice, and Coca-Cola is also a juice. Their mixture cannot, under any circumstances, become toxic to health. To date, no study has supported this claim.”

Similarly, Dr. Kosh Komba Jess Elio, an oncologist and pediatrician, also rejects this claim: “It is false. The combination of pineapple with Coca-Cola does not constitute any harmful or deadly poison. They are both juices, and no scientific study has confirmed its validity.”

We also conducted advanced research on this topic, and a denial of this information was published on January 6, 2020, by Agence France Presse (AFP).

The combination of pineapple and Coca-Cola does not constitute a deadly poison. However, the combination does not cause any side effects or toxicity in consumers.
