The claim that HIV/AIDS no longer exists in Bambari is unfounded. According to the head of the patient care service, the prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS continues to rise in Bambari.
Recently, in the town of Bambari, located in the center-east of the capital Bangui, this rumor has persisted, claiming “the nonexistence of HIV/AIDS.” It seems that much of the population is unaware of this serious issue.
To dispel this misinformation, our team from Lego Ti La Ouaka radio interviewed Dr. Ulrich-Donald BALEBANDA-DROGB, the Director of the Regional University Hospital in Bambari, who confirmed: “HIV/AIDS does indeed exist in Bambari and continues to cause significant harm.”
Prevalence Rate Remains High in Bambari
Contacted by our fact-checking team in Bambari, Alphonse Grenganda stated, “The prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS continues to rise in Bambari, and this information remains an unfounded rumor.”
This rumor emerged following the arrival of COVID-19 in Bambari, with a few cases reported.
All the efforts of political and administrative authorities were focused on combating this pandemic. As a result, the population seems to have become largely unaware of the ongoing presence of HIV/AIDS. This has allowed the rumor to spread, overshadowed by the concerns about COVID-19 in Bambari.
It is important to note that the HIV virus is still very much active, with the number of positive cases continuing to rise, according to HIV/AIDS specialists contacted by AFC in Bambari, a town located 385 km from the capital Bangui, Central African Republic.
