Capacity building for civil society actors on identifying misinformation

As part of a project to strengthen the capacity of community leaders to combat misinformation, funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), Centrafrique Check organized a sensitization session on identifying misinformation for civil society actors on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. The goal was to enable them to identify and prevent the spread of misinformation.

A total of forty (40) civil society actors, including at least twenty (20) women from various organizations, participated in this two-day interactive workshop. The aim was to equip them with better tools to identify security-related rumors and address them within their respective communities.

Several modules were included in the program for the first day, including: the typology and different forms of misinformation, identifying and understanding the effects of misinformation, followed by a Q&A session.

Maechelle MBOKOLE, president of the Femme Debout de Gobongo Association, appreciated the initiative: “This workshop is really important for me because it allowed me to learn more about identifying misinformation. Thank you so much to Centrafrique Check for this initiative.”

Matthieu Mboutou, Secretary of the Central African League for Human Rights, said: “I really appreciated this session as it gave me the opportunity to learn how to avoid misinformation. As a leader, I will put this into practice in my daily work.”

This session marks the conclusion of the project “Strengthening Civil Society’s Capacity to Combat Misinformation in the Central African Republic,” which spanned a period of nine months.
