No, peanut paste does not cause sterility – AFC

The claim that peanut paste causes sterility in consumers is false. No scientific evidence supports this, according to specialists interviewed by AFC.

The rumor circulating in Bangui and surrounding areas states: “Peanut paste causes sterility in men.” Beware of this misleading rumor.

Verification:

A rumor has been spreading in Bangui and its surroundings, asserting that peanut paste is a source of infertility in men.

This claim is false according to health specialists from the Ministry of Health and Population and the WHO contacted by AFC.

Dr. Valentin Nebanga, a physician in the health promotion service at the Ministry of Health and Population, states:

“This is false information. No man has complained that consuming peanut paste has made him infertile, as peanut paste is not listed as a cause of male sterility.”

Similarly, Augustin Dibert, Health Promotion Advisor at WHO Central African Republic, dismisses the rumor:

“This is just a baseless idea with no proof to support it. I am a consumer myself; it’s an example.”

We also consulted official health websites, including the World Health Organization (WHO), which did not provide any scientific details on this issue.

This rumor about peanut paste causing sterility in men has been persistent in Central Africa and concerns consumers. However, after verification with health specialists, it is false.
