No, the FACA soldiers did not kill twelve people in Bossangoa.

An October 17, 2022, Facebook post by the online news site “Corbeau News,” and shared by “236 News,” claimed that FACA soldiers had shot twelve people in Bossangoa, a town located 299 km from Bangui in the Ouham prefecture. This is false information to be wary of.

The post from Corbeau News Centrafrique and shared by 236 News states: “Twelve people shot in Bossangoa by FACA soldiers.” No evidence supports this claim.

Verification

To investigate and separate fact from fiction, we contacted Barthelemy Wilikon, the Prefect of Ouham, by phone on October 18, 2022. He denied the information, stating: “I wonder where people get such lies from. It’s false, Bossangoa is calm, and you can contact other people who can attest to this.”

“It is pathetic and disappointing that it is the children of the country who spread such false news,” added the Prefect.

Aristide Feikoumon, a journalist at Radio Lego Ouham, refuted the claim: “This information is false; the city is calm and peaceful.”

“I am even in downtown Bossangoa, and there has been no such event,” affirmed Raphaël Nganare, a resident of the city.

This publication follows the restoration of peace by FACA soldiers with the support of their partners in the Ouham prefecture, specifically in Bossangoa. After verification, the claim that FACA soldiers had shot twelve people in Bossangoa, a town located 299 km from the capital in the Ouham prefecture, is false.
