Fact-checking Training

Fact-checking training and rumor management are the core activities of Centrafrique Check. Since the organization’s founding in April 2020, formerly known as the Association of Fact-Checkers of the Central African Republic (AFC) and rebranded to Centrafrique Check (CAC) in July 2023, the organization has been addressing the rapid rise of misinformation and rumors in the Central African Republic. In order to limit their spread, Centrafrique Check has been implementing capacity-building activities in fact-checking or verification of facts for the past three years, both in Bangui and across the country. These activities target various actors, including media professionals of different types (online and print press, community radios), bloggers, human rights activists, civil society leaders, community leaders, women and youth leaders, and students at the University of Bangui.

Additionally, Centrafrique Check continues to organize awareness sessions to strengthen the capacities of community leaders (local authorities, religious leaders, leaders of women’s organizations and associations) through awareness-raising on misinformation and rumor management within their communities in the Central African Republic. These sessions aim to enhance their resilience against the manipulation of misinformation, rumors, and hate speech, while also involving them in the fight against this phenomenon that affects social cohesion, peaceful coexistence, and the peace that is the cornerstone of democracy.
